Good Shepherd UCC Closure – Through April 30th

Good Shepherd UCC Closure – Through April 30th

Updated 4/13/2020 – Closed through April 30th

March 28, 2020

Dear Friends in Christ:

It has indeed been an unexpectedly challenging month, with new information coming out each day regarding the spread and impact of COVID-19.  I pray that you are staying safe and healthy, both physically and emotionally, during this difficult time.

Our church Council has been in frequent communication to ensure we are providing the best guidance for our church family.  Governor Wolf’s guidance indicates that churches are essential organizations, but the recommendation is to continue to provide spiritual guidance remotely whenever possible until the spread of COVID-19 is controlled.

Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that the Council has determined that it would pose undue risk to our congregants to open the church at this time.  The church will remain closed until at least April 15th.  All auxiliary group meetings at the church remain canceled through April 15th.

This will impact our Holy Week observations.  Do not despair – Pastor Linda and the Worship Committee are making plans to ensure that we are still able to worship remotely during Holy Week.  Please stay tuned to e-mail, our website (goodshepherducc.org) and our Facebook page for details as they emerge.  We plan to hold “virtual communion” on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter Sunday.  Unfortunately, because of the change to remote worshiping, we will be cancelling our Easter flowers.  Those who have already ordered and paid for flowers will receive refunds.

We will continue to livestream our Sunday worship via Facebook (Good Shepherd UCC @ Godsstillspeaking) and will post the service on our website following the conclusion of the service.  The online service will be similar to our in-person services. It will be held at our normal time, Sunday at 10:30 AM with music, prayer, and a message from Pastor Linda. We will also offer recorded Lent Wednesday messages on our Facebook page at 7 PM.  There is also a YouTube posting of our recent Lent service (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GJhxq1HeOM). All of our services will be available on YouTube going forward.

If you are in need of assistance, whether spiritual guidance or a comforting soul to speak with during these challenging days, please do not hesitate to contact Pastor Linda at 484-529-2241 or e-mail her at pastorlindakoz@gmail.com.  She understands you may feel alone, or fearful, or anxious and is there for you. Please do not call the church office, as the office will be closed.

Please continue to reach out to members of our Good Shepherd UCC family.  A call, a card, Facetime, Zoom, or any other method to ensure that our community’s needs are being met and that each member is valued and missed will be greatly appreciated.

Because our staff are a vital part of our church family and they are continuing to perform their duties above and beyond during these uncertain times, Good Shepherd UCC will continue to fulfil our promised financial obligations to them.  Our church expenses go on even if we are not able to be together in our beautiful church building.  Please do not forget to support our church and our missions through this challenging time.  We still will need your financial support as well as your prayers.  You can give electronically here via our website, or mail donations directly to the church.

May the love of God guide us all safely through these stormy times.

Deanna Herman, Council Vice President
